12.-22.JUNE 2008, LJUBLJANA

A REPORT

RoboVox installation in Ljubljana was organized as part of Slovenska street project, initiated by Municipality of Ljubljana and Turist organization Ljubljana during Slovenian presidency of EU.

The installation was accompanied by several events, RoboVox Pecha Kucha, RoboVox opening concert and two urban interventions by Tomek Rygalik: Urban Bed and Xily.

On 12 June, a special Pecha Kucha RoboVox edition took place at the old Tobacco factory in Ljubljana.

ROBOVOX PECHA KUCHA

This thematic mini RoboVox conference was organised in order to announce and celebrate the publishing of Robovox sound book, a compilation of texts and music tracks by international researchers and musicians. We invited some of them to present their work at RoboVox Pecha Kucha. Alexei Monroe, NSK expert and author of Plural Monolith, presented his essay - a critical introduction of RoboVox installation. Mitar MilutinoviÄ, a student of artificial intelligence, presented his new project. Jan KuÅ¡ej compared several project, which, similarly as RoboVox deal with interaction of public in an urban environment and try to indicate a state of mind in their local area. Jana Horakova demonstrated the difference between machines and humans, Tomek Rygalik presented his interventions on public space. Martin Bricelj, author of the installation, talked about his initial ideas and thougts of RoboVox installation.

ROBOVOX OPENING CONCERT

Due to heavy rain, the opening concert was moved to Hvala Za Roze club. The concert was planned to be a presentation of RoboVox soundtrack, which is part of the sound book. Vector Lovers, one of the artists featured on the soundtrack, presented a DJ set and VJ Ozo presented a repertoire of robotic and sci-fi cult movies. In addition, we organised a small exhibition of RoboVox products: speaking Robot toys, RoboVox bags, T shirts and soundbooks. Check them out in MERCHANDISE section!

MOTA AND ROBOVOX PRESENT: TOMEK RYGALIK, URBAN BED and XILY

MOTA museum of temporary art invited Tomek Rygalik, an industrial designer from Poland, living and working in London, to resdency at MOTA. Tomek prepared two public intervations nearby RoboVox installation. The Urban Bed is a waste cardboard tubes reinvention. By collecting and mounting the tubes in a new shape, Rygalik created a place for resting, sitting and chatting in public space. His XILY project on the other hand, invites visitors and passers by to create patterns and form paths and images and play by using simple round stickers and a few basic rules.
